Pilgrims from all over the country, take part in the pilgrimage tour of Char Dham yatra which is one of the most important tours for Hindus. The yatra takes place in the Uttarakhand region of India. The yatra covers four pilgrimage destinations namely, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. These are the four sacred abodes that represent the four cardinal directions of the Indian subcontinent. The circuit is said to have been ordained by the great eighth-century reformer and spiritual figure, Adi Shankaracharya. To avoid hassle in your journey you can also book Char Dham Yatra Packages.

Haridwar is the starting point of the yatra and is also known as the doorway to the world-renowned Char Dham altars. The first stop is Yamunotri, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the second is Gangotri, which houses the source of the holy river Ganga, the third is Kedarnath, the highest located jyotirlinga and is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and finally, the fourth halt is Badrinath which is dedicated to Lord Badri or Vishnu.

The best time to visit these heavenly shrines is during the month of May to November. However, the yatra is closed during the winters due to heavy snowfall in the region. The route is very difficult so if you want to avoid trekking and walking then Char Dham Yatra by helicopter should be considered.

To make your trip more enjoyable and hassle-free, it is advised to travel in a group as it is safest. Also, it is better to carry warm clothings, raincoats, a torch and essential medicines (Painkiller, Headache, Fever, etc). A power bank for mobile phones will also be useful. The yatra requires trekking at high altitudes and so it is advisable to prepare well before the trip.
